So I am a big advocate for organic food, which all started when I read “The Secret War on Cancer” by Devra Davis. She used to work as Assistant Secretary for Health in the Department of Health and Human Services, and realized there was a huge difference between what we are told if being done around cancer research/treatment and what was actually being done. After this book I started doing my own research and I came across a lot of studies in relation to pesticides and its adverse effects, specifically cancers of all types. This really interested me and I pushed further into the research. I started switching all my food, including condiments to organic, and wouldn’t you know it, I stopped getting colds. I thought this was pretty amazing so organic food became a staple in my life.
I went travelling for a couple years after this, and I would eat non-organic food because I had to and I got sick, colds and flu’s mostly. When I had finally got settled in Melbourne Australia this year, I started building my organic pantry again. Needless to say I haven’t had a cold or flu even in peak winter months. As I recently started Naturopathic College I started meeting like-minded people that believe real food, chemical free, is a medical cure in itself. I and many others, advocate organic, raw, vegan, vegetarian diets, and most of us are living proof that eating less-processed, real food can have major beneficial health effects (although I am a Paleo I still advocate whatever food preferences one chooses). This belief in organic, local and fresh food has brought me to where I am today. I love that I can share my story here, and that we are a community that supports a food revolution. I encourage all people to start buying organic goods because this supports local organic farmers that struggle against the chemical giants in the agriculture industry. Thanks for reading to my story.
Be aware and eat with care 🙂
